Reason # 49: Defend the Wilderness Act

Last year, with the Wilderness Act approaching its 40th birthday, the Bush administration instructed the Interior Department to stop prohibiting oil and gas drilling on lands proposed for wilderness designation, but not yet designated by Congress. Interior has since granted oil and gas leases on tens of thousands of acres of these lands.
