Reason # 62: Save Steens Mountain

The area surrounding 9,733-foot Steens Mountain in the high desert of southeast Oregon is protected, at least on paper. In October 2000, President Clinton set the land aside under the Steens Act. But the Bush administration's failure to keep vehicles out of the new Steens Mountain Wilderness means the job isn't done.
