Sierra Club Urges Congress to Pass Home Star Program
Energy Efficiency Retrofits Create Jobs, Save Money, Cut Emissions
Washington, D.C.--President Obama, during today's visit to Savannah, Georgia, will tout the Home Star program, a home energy efficiency retrofit program for consumers. The Sierra Club urges Congress to include this vital program in upcoming jobs legislation. The program enjoys the support of a broad coalition, including environmental groups, labor unions, large retailers and manufacturers.
Statement of Carl Pope, Sierra Club Executive Director
"Our homes and buildings are among the biggest sources of global warming emissions. Making them more energy efficient is the cleanest, cheapest, and fastest way to reduce those emissions.
"By reducing the amount of energy simply going to waste, Home Star would allow hard-hit consumers to see immediate reductions in their energy bills. Using less energy will also help slash emissions.
"Home Star would also put tens of thousands of Americans back to work almost immediately. For this reason alone, including Home Star in one of the upcoming jobs bills should be a no-brainer. It's an easy win for both the economy and the environment."
