Thousands Will Join Public Officials and Allies to Promote Clean Energy Jobs
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- More than 300 Sierra Club volunteers and staff from all over the country will join thousands more clean energy jobs advocates at the 2010 Good Jobs Green Jobs Conference next week in Washington, D.C.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator John Kerry, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis, and Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu will join union members, environmentalists, community and business leaders, and other public officials for the leading forum in 2010 for transforming ideas into action and building a clean energy economy that creates good jobs and preserves America’s economic and environmental security.
Sierra Club is a co-convener of the conference and brings a large, diverse delegation, including members recruited by the Building Bridges to Outdoors youth program, the Sierra Student Coalition, and the Environmental Justice and Community Partnerships program.
The Conference includes more than 100 workshops on topics ranging from green manufacturing to transportation to business, investments and new markets. In addition, May 5 is the Green Innovation Expo, where labor, industry, environment and academia will showcase efforts to grow the green economy and develop clean energy jobs.
The Sierra Club, Earth Conservation Corps, and Blue Green Alliance will kick off the conference on May 3 at Anacostia Park in D.C. Youth and veterans will join forces with groups working to protect the Anacostia River with a morning of service and a press conference highlighting pathways to green jobs.
