Sierra Club Releases Second Set of Ads Calling on Congress To Renew Production Tax Credit
Reps Farenthold, Latta and Shuster Targeted in New Round of TV, Radio and Online Ads
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Sierra Club launched a second series of high saturation television, radio and online ads, singling out members of Congress who have failed to take steps to renew the production tax credit (PTC) for wind energy. The ads will run in the Corpus Christie TX, Toledo OH, and Southwest PA media markets over the next two weeks.
These ads continue the efforts of the Sierra Club’s Wind Works campaign, which aims to renew the wind energy Production Tax Credit and protect tens of thousands of American jobs. The wind industry currently supports more than 75,000 jobs across the country, but if the PTC is not renewed by the end of the year, as many as half of these jobs could be lost. Already, layoffs have been announced at manufacturing facilities and new wind installations have been delayed due to uncertainty around the PTC’s fate.
“We’d expect these Representatives to act with hundreds of wind industry jobs in their districts on the line – but these three have done nothing to support their constituents and renew the Production Tax Credit,” said Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club. “With as many as 37,000 American jobs hanging in the balance, Representatives Farenthold, Latta and Shuster must stand up for American families and renew the PTC this summer.”
