T. Boone Pickens to Join Carl Pope for Public TeleForum on Energy Future
Two Energy Leaders to Discuss Solutions for a Clean Energy Economy
Nationwide: As Congress prepares to debate various energy packages, the Sierra Club will hold two evenings of public conference calls with Executive Director Carl Pope and oil, gas and wind entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens to discuss the solutions that will bring about true energy independence. The Sierra Club will invite its members and call thousands of others to join these conference calls this coming Monday and Tuesday evenings to talk about the energy crisis we face and both the Sierra Club's and T. Boone Pickens' visions of a clean energy future.
"Rising energy costs, concerns about our dependence on foreign oil and global warming have sparked a national debate about America's energy future," said Pope. "While Congress debates, we'll be talking about solutions they should embrace. While the Sierra Club and T. Boone Pickens may not agree on everything, we do believe that the elements of his plan are key to helping us end our oil dependence and move us towards a clean energy economy. These conference calls give us a chance to speak directly to tens of thousands of people across the country about why focusing on drilling misses the point and why true energy independence really means moving us towards clean renewable power."
