Outings

Hike Ratings

Easy - Less than 5 miles, no serious elevation changes, no trail obstacles.

Moderate - 5 to 10 miles, some elevation changes or rough trail (rock hopping), or trail obstacles such as creek crossings.

Strenuous - Over 10 miles, substantial elevation change, rocky, obstructed or nonexistent trail.

Exploratory - any event where the leader has not experienced the event; may fit any class above.

Note. Participants of Sierra Club outings are required to sign a waiver.

 

Nov.          10 (Sat) Walk on Wade Mtn.  6-8 miles - Moderate

Fall colors and cooler temperatures will make this a beautiful hike.  We will meet at the Spragins Hollow Trailhead and hike up to the Devil’s Racetrack and then continue on to cover more of the property.  Dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes. Bring a camera, water, snacks and some cash for the Land Trust if you are not a member. We will meet at 9500 Spragins Hollow Road NW, Huntsville, AL 35810, at 8:30 am, the hike leaves at 9:00 am sharp.  Leashed dogs welcome. Rain Cancels this hike. Nov.           16 (Fri) Sierra Club Member Appreciation Party!

Sierra Club of North Alabama would like to invite you to a Member Appreciation Party!  
Join us November 16, 6-8 pm, at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment.  We will discuss Sierra Club activities, upcoming events and get your input on Sierra Club activities in 2019.

Nov.           17 (Sat) Monte Sano 6-7 mile - Moderate Hike

Cooler fall weather makes it a great time to enjoy Huntsville’s jewel.  We will explore trails in the State Park. Experiencing the beauty of the State Park.  Dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes. Bring a camera, water, snacks and some cash for the park entrance.  Meet at the Hikers Parking Lot at 8:30 am, the hike leaves at 9:00 am sharp. Leashed dogs welcome. Nov.           24 (Sat) Green Mtn. Hike.  6-8 miles - Moderate

We will visit some of the newest trails in Huntsville the the Green Mountain Nature Preserve in South Huntsville.  These trails have a variety of features, waterfalls, ancient human habitation sites, interesting geology and abandoned trucks.  There will be some elevation changes on this hike as we move down the mountainside and back up. Dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes.  Bring a camera, water, snacks and some cash for the Land Trust if you are not a member. We will meet at 13800 South Shawdee Road, Huntsville, AL 35803, at 8:30 am, the hike leaves at 9:00 am sharp.  Leashed dogs welcome. Rain Cancels this hike. Dec.           1  (Sat) Blevins Gap Hike.  5 miles - Easy

Enjoy beautiful views of Huntsville and Hampton Cove on this easy hike.  There will be some elevation as we work out way up and along the Certain Tail to reach the vista locations.  Dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes. Bring a camera, water, snacks and some cash for the Land Trust if you are not a member.  We will meet at 3470 Cecil Ashburn Dr SE, Huntsville, AL 35802, at 8:30 am, the hike leaves at 9:00 am sharp.
