Hike Ratings

Easy - Less than 5 miles, no serious elevation changes, no trail obstacles.

Moderate - 5 to 10 miles, some elevation changes or rough trail (rock hopping), or trail obstacles such as creek crossings.

Strenuous - Over 10 miles, substantial elevation change, rocky, obstructed or nonexistent trail.

Exploratory - any event where the leader has not experienced the event; may fit any class above.

Note. Participants of Sierra Club outings are required to sign a waiver.

Saturday, February 15 - An Early Bird Special in the Sipsey!" Strenuous.

On May 17, 1975, during the dedication of the Sipsey Wilderness, Congressman Tom Bevill said, "Without question, it is one of the most scenic places of unspoiled beauty in the Southeast."  Join Charlie and Sandy on a 12-mile trail hike series that loops. The series includes following the Sipsey River through a canyon until we turn up into the forest.  We may see a few seasonal waterfalls en route. This is an extended dayhike with an approximate one hour drive from our meeting location to the trailhead via paved, gravel and Forest Service dirt roads. We'll have a stream crossing (not the Sipsey), there will be downed trees to climb or route around, and the trail can be muddy and slippery. Per Wilderness regulation, the group size is limited. Bring water, snacks, lunch, a towel, wear good hiking shoes and dress for the weather. Contact Sandy at sandykip56@gmail.com for more info. Rain reschedules.
