2016 Activities:

12/31/16 Sa - CAG Outing - "Last Day Hike" - ORIGINAL WRITEUP: Base Trail (3 mile loop) at Pinnacle Mountain State Park - Trail has minimal elevation gain but a lot of rocks sticking up that you must step over. A short section of trail is on rock or boulders. Weather forecast currently indicates rain for Saturday. Due to uncertainty of weather, advance signups are not required for this hike. Unless it is a steady rain or worse, Leader will be at the West Summit Trailhead off Hwy 300 (an extension of Chenal Pkwy) at 9:45 am with a clipboard with the signin sheet/liability waiver forms for participants to sign (see Club Outings Policies for info). Hike starts at 10 am. For any late changes, check this writeup after 7 pm Friday. Leader: Joe Wankum, jbwankum@aol.com - TRIP REPORT: Hike started with a cool (but not cold) temperature and a steady but light sprinkle of rain that continued for 15 or 20 minutes. After passing the EST trailhead halfway through the hike, rain again started - a little heavier this time - and continued for the rest of the hike. The trail was in excellent shape, with the leaves having been blown off the day before. Only one small area had any water standing on the trail. After the hike, a short time was spent discussing use of a compass for finding direction.

Feb. 27 Sa - Outing - Orienteering Exercise and Hike - Click HERE for flyer with details on signup. - Report: After a brief review of compass use, participants successfully located a half dozen points on Pinnacle's orienteering course, then hiked cross-country to the Ouachita Trail, then back to the cars. As a final exercise, participants used the bearings and distances to prepare a map of the route they followed on the course.
