REI has generously offered a grant to support the Sierra Club Inner City Outings Program, a community outreach program that provides low-income, inner city youth trips to the wilderness. The REI grant will go toward the purchase of backpacks, rain gear, and other hiking and camping supplies that will help youth of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds explore the natural world.
"REI is proud of its history of support for programs of the Sierra
Club that protect and preserve wild places. The REI grant allows us to
come together with Inner City Outings groups and provide necessary gear to
explore the outdoors. Through this special grant, REI and Inner City
Outings can experience the outdoors and prepare kids across the country to
be the future stewards of our environment."
