Care for America

Hey where did everybody go?

where did everybody go Some career federal employees just don't fit in anymore. What happened to these six Interior Department and EPA staffers after they stuck out their necks for the environment? Were they promoted, reassigned or so frustrated that they resigned?

1. Martha Hahn, Idaho state director for the Bureau of Land Management, who reduced cattle grazing on some federal land in southwest Idaho

2. Tim Salt, California Desert District manager for the Bureau of Land Management, who protected endangered species on BLM desert lands

3. Kate Cannon, manager of Utah's Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, who cut back on cattle grazing in the monument

4. Brad Powell, head of the Forest Service's Pacific Southwest Region, who approved a management plan for Sierra Nevada national forests that would limit logging, grazing, and off-road-vehicle use

5. Robert J. Martin, ombudsman for the EPA, who has protected the public's interests in Superfund cases

6. Eric Schaeffer, director of the EPA's Office of Regulatory Enforcement, who brought to light the agency's failure to crack down on power plants that violate the Clean Air Act
