Print out the letter below, add your name and address and send it in to governor Schwarzenegger today. Or, better yet write your own letter using the text below as a guide. Thank Governor Schwarzenegger for speaking out against increased drilling off our coast and urge him to fight to retire the 37 unexplored leases off our coast.
Honorable Governor Schwarzenegger,
State Capitol Building
Sacramento, CA 95814

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:
Thank you for standing up to big oil companies and their allies in Washington who are working to open California's Outer Continental Shelf to increased oil and gas drilling. Santa Barbara's devastating 1969 oil spill was a wake-up call to all of us who treasure our clean surf and beautiful coastline, and we refuse to further endanger our beaches, wildlife or coastal communities.
As one of Sierra Club's 5,000 statewide Great Coastal Places Campaign members, I urge you to continue to push back against the special interests in the polluting energy industry. The 37 old leases and drilling rights from Ventura County to San Luis Obispo County should be retired, the oil and gas moratorium should be continued and Liquefied Natural Gas tankers and terminals should be banned from our coast. Instead, California should lead the way with conservation and the use of clean, safe, renewable resources like solar and wind power. These creative, reliable technologies are available now, and all we need is strong leadership to set us on the right path.
Thanks again for taking a step in the right direction by standing up against expanded offshore oil and gas drilling. You have also spoken out about the need for conservation and renewable sources of energy before we use more polluting foreign fossil fuels. Please follow through with this worthy goal and protect California from importing foreign LNG, from new offshore oil and gas drilling and please add your voice to those demanding the retirement of the 37 unused leases off our coast.
Sincerely
