Artist's Vision of the Restoration of Hetch Hetchy - Third Phase

Daved English painting of third stage of Hetch Hetchy restoration.

In the third phase of restoration, perhaps 20 years after removal of the dam, the valley continues to recover.

Trees begin to move back onto the valley floor, and wildlife returns, as shown by this pair of osprey. The bathtub ring from the remains but is beginning to diminish.

Perhaps at this point, human visitors can begin to return to the Valley floor to enjoy its beauty. If what has happened elsewhere when devastation has been replaced by nature's healing hand, the restoration may occur more quickly than we can now foresee!
