Cucamonga Wilderness Middle Fork of Lytle Creek to Third Stream Crossing Hike (8:00 a.m.)
Los Serranos Group, San Gabriel Mountains Forever East Group
This hike will be part of the San Gabriel Mountains Forever Campaign to add wilderness acreage to Cucamonga Wilderness. We will write postcards to Congressman David Dreier on a break. Cards and mailing will be provided. This will be an uphill hike on the Middle Fork of Lytle Creek Trail to the Third Stream Crossing and to the 30 foot unnamed waterfall off of Lytle Creek. Starts in arid chaparral and progresses upward through belts of big-cone spruce and Jeffrey pine. Moderate. 5.1 miles Round Trip, 1400 ft elev. gain. MEET: At 8 a.m. at the Lytle Creek Ranger Station (from Interstate 15 between the 210 and 215 freeways, exit north on Sierra Avenue which immediately becomes Lytle Creek Road - follow Lytle Creek Road 5.5 miles to the ranger station). We will carpool to Middle Fork of Lytle Creek trailhead. Adventure Pass required. BRING: lunch, water, and extra snacks; wear sturdy shoes/boots. Rain cancels. Take a scenic tour of the high country over the Condor Peak potential wilderness. Join this moderately paced 10 mi hike with only 1000' gain. Become acquainted with a place in the Angeles National Forest that deserves wilderness protection. Meet 9 am at La Caņada rideshare pt. Bring 2 qts water, lunch, sun protection and sturdy shoes. San Gabriel Mountains Forever Campaign Bonita Falls Hike (9:00 a.m.)
Los Serranos Group, San Gabriel Mountains Forever East Group
This hike will be part of the San Gabriel Mountains Forever Campaign to add wilderness acreage to Cucamonga Wilderness. We will write postcards to Congressman David Dreier on a break. This will be an easy hike to the 90 foot Bonita (Beautiful) Falls. Easy. About 4.5 miles Round Trip, slight elev. gain. MEET: Lytle Creek Ranger Station (from Interstate 15 between the 210 and 215 freeways, exit north on Sierra Avenue which immediately becomes Lytle Creek Road - follow Lytle Creek Road 5.5 miles to the ranger station). We will carpool just around the bend to park across from the green bridge over Lytle Creek. Adventure Pass required. BRING: water and extra snacks; wear sturdy shoes/boots. Rain cancels. San Gabriel River, Sheep Mountain Wilderness Addition (8:30 a.m.)

Learn ways to protect the areas we hike and enjoy on this moderately paced trek on the Heaton Flats Trail above the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. This 6 mile long, 2000' gain hike will offer outstanding views of Mount Baldy and the San Antonio Ridge. We will talk about how this remote area can get greater protection and how the less remote areas can better serve visitors. Bring water, lunch, hat and extra clothing layer. Meet at 8:30 am at the Azusa rideshare point. Heavy rain cancels. Leaders: John Monsen and Erik Counseller.

West Fork San Gabriel River - Newcomer's Hike (9:00 a.m.)

Meet new friends on a winter hike along the awesome West Fork of the San Gabriel River and learn about the recreational needs and water quality issues of the area. The hike will go into the San Gabriel Wilderness and you'll have the opportunity to take a small action to help protect the river. This hike will be 5 mi rt, 500' gain. Meet 9 AM Azusa rideshare pt. Bring hiking boots, sunscreen, lunch, water. Rain cancels. Leaders: Juana Torres and John Monsen.

Sierra Club Rideshare Meeting Points

La Canada Rideshare Point: From the 210 Freeway exit Angeles Crest Hwy and drive north (toward the mountains). In a block or two you will see parking on your right (along the road). This is the rideshare point.

Mt. Baldy Rideshare Point: From the 210 Freeway exit Towne Ave and head south (away from the mountains) to Foothill Blvd and turn left (east). Park at the north east corner of Foothill and Indian Hill Blvds at Pomona First Federal Bank & Trust parking lot.

Azusa Rideshare Point: From the 210 Freeway exit Azusa Ave (Hwy 39) and head north (toward the mountains). Park on the street on the corner of 9th Street and Azusa Ave., north of Foothill Blvd. Meet in the parking lot of the Latin Market.

Sylmar: Take Roxford Street exit from Golden State Freeway. Continue on Roxford to Encinitas Avenue. Rideshare on Encinitas south of Roxford.
