Hiking For A Generation To Come Join us on fun, conservation-oriented hikes to special forest places. You will learn about how you can help protect these unique areas as you enjoy the scenery and make new friends. Saturday, April 26, 2008 Learn ways to protect the areas we hike and enjoy on this moderately paced trek on the Heaton Flats Trail above the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. This 6 mile long, 2000’ gain hike will offer outstanding views of Mount Baldy and the San Antonio Ridge. Volunteers will give you an update about pressing issues facing the San Gabriel River and its visitors, such lack of rangers, restrooms, and trash containers. Later on during the hike you will learn what you can do to help find solutions to these problems as well as about how you can help get more of the Heaton Flats Trail area included in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness. We will teach you the basics of how you can help us spread the conservation message about protecting this area on future hikes. Bring water, lunch, hat and extra clothing layer. Meet at 8:30 am at the Azusa rideshare point (adjacent to the market at 9th Street & Azusa Avenue. Take Azusa Avenue--Highway 39--north from the 210 Freeway). Heavy rain cancels. Saturday, May 17, 2007 Join us for a beautiful 6 mile roundtrip, 1300' loss/800'gain hike into Cooper Canyon in the Pleasant View Ridge Proposed Wilderness Area. Enjoy gorgeous canyon views as you walk under jeffrey and sugar pines, cedar, alders and oak trees and take a small action to protect this special place. Meet at 8:30 am at the La Canada Rideshare Point. Please bring your lunch, water, sturdy shoes and sun protection. Leaders: Rick Farber and Erik Counseller. Saturday, May 31, 2008 Learn how to protect the areas where we hike as you enjoy this moderately paced 6 mile,1000' gain trek along the South Fork Trail. The Sierra Club is proposing that this area--which includes Mt. Williamson and Pleasant View Ridge-be officially designated as a Wilderness. Volunteers will teach you the basics of how you can help present the conservation message about this area on future Sierra Club hikes. Bring water, lunch, hat and lug-soled shoes. Meet at 8:30 am at the La Canada rideshare point. Leaders: Juana Torres and John Monsen. Saturday, June 7, 2008 Learn how to protect the areas we hike and enjoy on this moderately paced hike to the Icehouse Saddle. This 8 mile long, 2600' gain hike in the Cucamonga Wilderness area will provide you with great views of proposed additions to the wilderness area, which are supported by the Sierra Club. You will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of wilderness protection and the basics of how you can help us spread the conservation message about the Cucamonga Wilderness Additions on future hikes. Bring water, lunch, hat and lug soled shoes. Meet at 8:30 am at the Mt. Baldy rideshare point. Leaders: Juana Torres and Erik Counseller. Saturday, June 21, 2007 Meet new friends on a summer hike along the awesome West Fork of the San Gabriel River. The hike will go into the San Gabriel Wilderness along the Bear Creek Trail. On the hike you'll have the opportunity to take a small action to help protect the river. The hike will be 5-miles rt with a 500 foot gain. Bring hiking boots, sunscreen, lunch and water. There will be stream crossings and boulder hopping, you might get wet!! Bring water, lunch and sun protection. Meet at 9 am at the Azusa Rideshare Point (from the 210 Freeway exit Azusa Ave/Hwy 39 in the City of Azusa and head north.
