Job Title: SSC Regional Campus Organizer, MO, IA, MN, IN, and ND

Department: Sierra Student Coalition

Reports To: DC Field Representative, Manager/WDC

Context: Works with Sierra Student Coalition staff and regional Sierra Club staff, chapter/group volunteers, and with Energy Action Coalition partner organizations to organize support for grassroots campaigns, events and skills training and to generate turnout for campaign visibility events and to advance the “Campus Climate Challenge” and Power Shift campaigns in a designated region of the country. Creates demand for action on climate and energy.

Scope: The Regional Campus Organizer plans, organizes and implements the education and mobilization efforts of the Sierra Student Coalition on its Campus Climate Challenge and Power Shift campaign efforts in various locations in the assigned region. Organizes campus groups and communicates with officials, the media and the public. Works with professional staff in editing, writing, researching, and coordinating functions.

Knowledge & Skills:

-- Experience with at least one campus organizing or mobilization project or prior experience working with student volunteers in the environmental movement, political campaigns, or other, similar organizations to plan and implement grassroots campaigns.

-- Able to travel as needed. Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.

-- Ability to work independently, cooperatively and effectively with public, staff and volunteers.

-- Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly explain complex issues and effectively communicate them to student volunteers.

-- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the environment, energy, or related public interest issues.

-- Proficient with computer skills including word processing.
