Job Title: Research Associate, National Coal Campaign
Department: Conservation; Minnesota is preferred location
Reports to: Deputy Director of Operations – National Coal Campaign
Context: Researches and provides technical research for Sierra Club’s
National Coal Campaign for internal and external publication.
Scope: The Research Associate is responsible for conducting research
on carbon emissions reduction resulting from efforts of the Sierra Club’s
National Coal Campaign effort to defeat proposed coal plants, retire existing
coal plants, and decrease in coal mining. In coordination with the National Coal
Campaign, the Research Associate is responsible for collecting and compiling
information on carbon emission, and disseminating findings to internal and
external stakeholders including campaign staff and volunteers, funders, and key
allies.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Two years experience in environmental research or other detailed research
experience. • • B.A./B.S. degree in Environmental Studies, Political Science or
a closely related field.
• Strong oral and written communications skills.
• Proficiency in the use of computer software, including Microsoft Word,
Excel.
• Demonstrated familiarity with energy related environmental topics, issues,
and literature.
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
