The Sierra Club along with HealthLink and SAFE are screening the movie Coal Country at Cinema Salem, 2 E India Square Mall, Salem, MA at 10:00 AM on Saturday March 5. The movie is about the lifecycle of coal from mining, processing, burning, and disposal. The movie is approximately 45 minutes in length and will be followed by a discussion on local coal and energy issues and how to take action.
“Coal is literally killing us by dumping toxic pollution into our air, water, and land,” said Drew Grande, the Massachusetts coordinator for the Beyond Coal Campaign of the Sierra Club. “The pollution from these coal plants is in the air we breathe, water we drink, and literally making us sick.”
There are three coal-fired power stations in Massachusetts; including Salem Harbor Station which is owned and operated by Richmond, VA based Dominion Energy.
