Sierra Club Michigan Beyond Coal Campaign Intern Position

Coal-fired power plants are one of our nation's largest and dirtiest sources of energy. Clean energy technologies can meet our energy needs, save consumers money, create jobs, improve public health, and combat global warming.  Right now Michigan has 2 new proposed coal-fired power plants and 25 existing old coal-fired power plants.  More info about the Sierra Club’s Michigan campaign to move beyond coal can be found at www.sierraclub.org/coal/mi.

Internship responsibilities would be working with Sierra Club staff and members to move Michigan towards a clean energy economy.  This could include helping generate earned media, helping give and schedule educational presentations or events, assisting with public outreach, working with Sierra Club volunteers to carry out national Beyond Coal and Clean Energy Solutions campaign priorities, assisting with research and with some data entry and office work as needed.  The intern would work be responsible for a couple of projects that they would work on their own, with guidance from Sierra Club staff and volunteer leaders. 

Qualified applicants will have good writing and research skills, a knowledge or interest in environmental issues, and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.  They will be able to take leadership on projects and work independently.

Internship positions are available for spring (January-April), summer (May-August), and fall (September-December) semesters. The unpaid internship could be based out of the the Detroit office, the Lansing office, or the Muskegon, Holland or Grand Rapids areas.  Internships can be arranged for between 10 to 30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling.  Arrangements can be made for substantial work to be done outside the office and normal business hours.
