Landowners near the proposed coal complex near South Heart, ND said today that they plan to appeal Stark County's decision to issue a permit to GTL Energy for their coal drying plant.

FOR IMEDIATE RELEASE: October 23, 2009

South Heart, ND - Today landowners near GTL Energy's coal drying plant at South Heart, ND said that they would file an appeal of the Stark County Commission's decision to grant a zoning change and conditional use permit for construction of the GTLE facility. "This plant and the proposed coal mine pose a threat to our way of life and our families." said Frank Hurt, a local landowner. GTL Energy's "beneficiation" plant will process coal from a coal mine proposed for the same area by Great Northern Project Development as well as other coal mines from around the world. "Once GTLE's plant and the mine are operational it will change South Heart forever, " declared Mary Hodell, spokesperson for Neighbors United, a grassroots organization fighting the coal plant and mine. A decision on the appeal is expected 45 days after it is filed.
