Texas has never placed a tax on the processing of coal or its extraction from the ground. The Lone Star Chapter advocates such a tax. The Texas House Ways and Means Committee is spending the summer examining every franchise tax, severance tax, and other tax exemption enjoyed by various industries.

A Town Hall meeting was held June 2 in Abiline in response to the public's concern about impacts of the project. Tenaska says they want to use 10 million gallons a day to cool this plant. Dr. Neil Carmen lists the chemicals that would be emitted.

In advance of the EPA’s March 22, 2010 deadline for public comments on a new ozone rule, representatives of the hosting Texas environmental groups spoke in support of a strong, health-based standard of 60 parts per billion.
