Sierra Club Student Coalition Asks Students to Sign Letter of Encouragement for EPA

Austin, TX- The Sierra Club Student Coalition will be tabling Wednesday November 19th in the west mall, asking students to sign a letter of in favor of the EPA’s ruling that major portions of the TCEQ air permitting process do not adhere to the Clean Air act and asking them to take bold action in putting our state on the path to cleaner energy. Students will receive a complementary cookie for signing the letter.

The letter is vital in showing the EPA that Texans wants to clean up the energy industry. Texas has more proposed coal and pet coke fired power plants than any other state in the nation, is #1 in carbon emissions, and is on the top of the list for the largest increase in emissions over the past five years.

“This is a simple way for UT students to do something about the environment and receive a sweet treat in return,” said Jacklyn Verdin, member of the Sierra Club Student Coalition. Verdin says that the Sierra Club Student Coalition was founded with the hopes of getting fellow students to be more involved in issues that affect our environment.
