Rivers Committee

Issues and Objectives

Water is one of the most import resources we share in this Water Planet we life in. We cannot survive long without good clean water and thus it is a extremely critical that we focus on it.

While we are a National Committee we acknowledge the efforts going on worldwide and we will support our international neighbors wherever our resources can help.

The work of the Rivers committee includes many issues such as:

  • Water Conservation
  • Water Rights
  • Riparian zone management
  • Restoration,
  • Dam removal, dredging, Hydro re-licensing (the Rivers Committee is a member of the Hydro-Power Reform Coalition)
  • Locks, levees, diversions
  • wild and scenic river management and designation (both state and federal programs) and,
  • many additional related issues.

In order to carry out these objectives the Rivers Committee pursues the following:

  1. Outreach to activists and staff to facilitate information exchange among members.
  2. Keeping members informed on legislation and agency policy matters related to river issues.
  3. Helping develop and implement strategy to deal with river issues from defensive and proactive positions as appropriate, including raising the visibility of river issues in the Club.
  4. Developing contacts with other environmental and citizen's groups working on river issues where such contacts would be helpful to activists and further the Club's agenda.
