building environmental community: Atlanta, GA

Three Club activists plot their strategy in Atlanta.Holding the Bush administration accountable for weakening 30 years worth of environmental progress is the goal of the Building Environmental Communities network. Whether it is toxic mercury contaminating fish in the Chattahoochee or Macon's impending unhealthy air, the Bush Administration is weakening federal standards to protect Georgians. There is a better way! We can clean our air and water using existing technology. We can build environmental communities seeking visionary solutions to the environmental problems we face.

In 2003 the Georgia Chapter piloted some exciting new activities. "Sierra Club and Beer" is a program that introduces members and friends to Sierra Club activities in a fun social setting. "Sierra Club 101" provides a short overview of all the varied activities of the Sierra Club in an interactive format that allows members to ask questions and practice some fun actions.

This coming year we will provide local "house parties" which will combine "Sierra Club and Beer" and "Sierra Club 101" in a smaller more informal setting that invites members to ask questions and learn about what our Sierra Club does. We will tell members about these activities by using phone, mail and Internet.
