Recycling Task Force

What: Sierra Club BEC Recycling Task Force
When: Now until November, 2007, 4-8 hours per month Task force will meet regularly once per month on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 pm
Where: Sierra Club BEC Office 908 Wood St., Suite 130 Houston, TX. 77002

Garbage is not something most Americans want to think about every day, but managing the nearly 230 million tons we generate each year has every day environmental and economic consequences. While Houston is making gains in the effort to reduce the amount of waste produced each year and to improve the way we deal with garbage, there is still work to do. And every Houstonian can help.

We are looking for volunteers to assist in researching, developing, implementing, marketing and promoting community-based and workplace-based recycling programs. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

Research -- Research pre-existing recycling programs in communities, schools and the city at-large. Determine what steps need to be taken to ensure that the Sierra Club recycling program is not duplicating but enhances or compliments current recycling efforts.

Program Development -- Design recycling strategies, activities and events that can be introduced into schools, communities and businesses. Recruitment Recruit additional volunteers to assist with the implementation and marketing of the recycling campaign

Marketing/Promotion -- Identify the target audiences for the marketing program(s). Design marketing materials, including a website, brochure, flyers, post cards, press releases, PSA’s and media kits to promote the recycling program to our targeted audiences. Volunteers will be needed to distribute these materials to the appropriate location or site(s).

Evaluation -- Develop evaluative tools to assess the growth and effectiveness of the recycling campaign.

Everyone has a part to play and together we can effectively manage the amount of waste we send to our landfills each year. Don’t waste any time. Join the Sierra Club BEC campaign today and help us help others find ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.
