Good Times on Family Fun Day

Our Family Fun Day was held at Red Rock on May 21st at Red Rock.

Mojave Max the Turtle
Mojave Max the Turtle

The event this weekend was a huge success! We had 30 people out for a presentation on the desert tortoise (the famous Mojave Max even came out for a visit in the 100+ degree heat), an educational hike, some trash pick up, lunch and a BEC presentation. We had three team leaders (two of them new) helping to work the group during the hike and lunch to sign them up for house parties and neighborhood events. Of the participants only 5 of them weren’t new faces so the word is getting out!

Trail talk by Howard and Ursula Booth
Howard and Ursula Booth talk to the group about the area's geology and plant life.

In addition we had wonderful lifesavers in Howard and Ursula Booth – both long time Club members and activists within the wilderness community. Thirty minutes before the event started the volunteer interpreter for the day cancelled leaving us with no one knowledgeable enough about the history of the area, the geology, the plant life and the threats to the area to lead the hike. Howard and Ursula kindly stepped in an led the hike with style! Everyone was thrilled at the end and couldn’t get enough of the knowledge the couple had.
