"Save our Forests" Action Night

Activists got a leg up on forestry issues during an Action Night in June.

Sierra Club members met at the Dodge Nature Center in West Saint Paul on Thursday, June 3rd to discuss the Bush Administration’s new proposal to increase logging in Superior and Chippewa National Forests. These forests, near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, provide critical habitat for hundreds of rare plant and animal species, and recreation destinations for tens of thousands of Minnesotans.

“Once these resources are lost, they will be impossible to replace,” said West Saint Paul resident Diane Englin-Elliot. “We need to work to protect our wild forests so that future generations can enjoy them.”

At the meeting, participants learned the details of the Forest Service plan, and took action by writing letters to elected officials to ask for a better plan that protects endangered species and roadless areas. Many pledged to help spread the word to neighbors and friends at a neighborhood outreach walk in West Saint Paul on Saturday, June 12th.
