| Paul Bunyan goes door to door in West St.
Paul. He knows a thing or two about the Bush administration's
misguided forestry plan. |
Saturday, June 12, dawned the perfect summer morning.
After several gloomy days, Mother Nature was smiling on our efforts
that day. Several Sierra Club volunteers from the Building Environmental
Community group, along with Margaret Levin and Josh Davis of the Sierra
Club and a very repentant Paul Bunyan, met at Garlough Park in West
St. Paul.
We were there for a community walk through the local neighborhoods
to inform our neighbors of the Bush administrations Forestry
Plan and the danger it poses for two of our state treasures: the Superior
and Chippewa National Forests.
The children of the neighborhoods were thrilled to see Mr. Bunyan
stroll down their blocks (what a great way to reach out to tomorrows
leaders!) and the adults were equally receptive and supportive, many
agreeing to sign petition cards. We then met back at the park for
lunch and to discuss environmental issues and plan more community
outreach activities.
