Building a Clean Energy Future to Stop Global Warming
Global warming is one of the greatest challenges facing today’s generation and presenting us with a choice: ignore the problem or take action. Many people understand what’s at stake and want to take action, but feel overwhelmed by the global impacts and how their contribution will help. By participating in the growing grassroots effort we can stop global warming by starting in our own communities.
Our goal is simple: reduce our carbon emissions from power plants, vehicles, and de-forestation by 80% by 2050 (a doable 2% a year for the next 40 years). Fortunately this means we have time, but we must start now. The solutions will require that governments, businesses, and individuals work together at the local, state, and global level.
Here in southeast Pennsylvania people are participating in the “Cool Cities” campaign to raise awareness about global warming and advocate for local clean energy solutions. Your city/town can be “Cool” by having the mayor or town supervisors sign the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and pledging to cut their carbon emissions through energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation, better land use, and improved waste management. The City of Philadelphia, Radnor, Nether Providence, Lower Makefield and Oxford Townships have joined almost 800 other cities and municipalities nationwide to make the pledge to cut their carbon emissions.
Will your town be next?
