Dear Mr. Giles:
A 15-mile stretch of Interstate 90 just east of Snoqualmie Pass bisects an area that biologists have long recognized as a critical connective link in the north-south movement of wildlife in the Cascade Range.
As the Washington Department of Transportation prepares to upgrade I-90 between Hyak and Easton, it should include new and necessary bridges and other structures that allow safer and improved wildlife passage at more than a dozen strategic locations. These should optimize use by a range of animal species, including deer, elk, cougar, fox, amphibians, and native trout. These structures will also make human travel safer and more efficient.
There is a better way. I urge you to select the alternative that provides the highest level of connectivity for all species of wildlife.
Sincerely,
