John Harkness, Sierra Neighborhoods
leader, worked with a local youth garden program to teach them
about the environmental benefits of native plants, and to create
signs identifying them. |
This summer, "Sierra Neighborhoods" activists in South
Minneapolis held house parties introducing Seward neighborhood
residents to a variety of individual actions for reducing polluted
storm water runoff, ranging from planting native plants and building
rain gardens to reducing toxins and yard waste. Sierra Neighborhoods
volunteers organized and participated in several other events related
to these individual actions, such as stormdrain stenciling, working
with youth gardens to teach about native plants, a workshop on
landscaping for water quality, and the creation of two native plant
gardens in public spaces.
