Pat, I have to admit I was lolling around on the Internet in my underpants, forgetting all about my civic duty, when I saw your reminder at like 6 PM. I got dressed and down to the elections office and then discovered the most unlikely party downtown -- the election night bar scene. "I'm one of the 12 ACLU members in Idaho!" confided a capable-looking lawyer in a grey wool suit, who was on his NINTH (no bull) gin and tonic. There was a roar as McCaskill went over the top in Missouri -- this obviously was a DEM bar. One local extrovert (not me) pretended to be reaching a peak of sexual excitement, much to the dismay of some black-tied Young Republicans nearby, but in retrospect I'm not sure she -- a former campaign manager for our state's finest liberal blowhard -- was pretending. Anyway, fun was had by all on election night -- a first for me. Cheers, bottleman.

Glad I could help. You know, in a lot of countries, voting day is dry by law. I never understood that. I think they should put the voting booths right next to the bars, just to encourage the kind of celebration you describe. If you lose, it's a wake. If you win, yee-haw. I dunno, maybe it's just the Irish in me.

Cheers, Pat
