Do not see any disabled plates or placard from this view... As a person who once worked in law enforcement and is now disabled due to on the job injuries, I can sooooo relate to this picture. I used to love giving out parking violations like this and this picture posted here is more than proof enough to win the case in the favor of the public entity that shold have written this ticket. Not only can they obviously afford the citation fine, but they are lazy and disrespectful of those less fortunate as them as well. Trick is making sure they do not have a disabled person with them....
I also previously worked in law enforcement, though not in the capacity of someone who could issue fines (wish I could have!). I am also now disabled, due to being injured in three separate car accidents in four years - every time, I was hit from behind by a careless driver; two of them were hit-and-run. And I, too, am OH-so-familiar with selfish people who park in spaces reserved for those with disabilities. Able-bodied people appear to have no idea just how much trouble - and often, pain - they cause us. If they could go through just one day in our shoes, they might think twice. (That's ridiculous, I know - people like that don't think to begin with.)
That is a Photoshopped fake picture. And what is it trying to prove? That only SUV drivers park in handicapped spots? I've seen plenty of regular cars ilegally parked in handicapped spots. Why don't you show a picture of lead environmentalist Daniel Patterson's illegally parked gas-hogging Chevy Suburban when he went hiking and parked in an area closed to vehicles?
definately Photoshopped, If you blow it up, you'll notice that the ground inside and around the the handicap symbol is darker and the photo has been blurred to distort this.
So, what is this picture trying to say?
That the Sierra Club website post doctored photos to further their agenda?
Photo chop pic to say the least. That is a pedestrian walk way on the other side. No handicap post in front of it. Further more does anyone know what the circumstances were for the person parking. I have had to double space my truck on a few occasions due to the car next to me being sideways in a space. Sorry just because it is a hummer should not make it a target!
that's my hummer, guys...I am sorry, and I parked quickly, as I was in a hurry to catch up with this cute little baby seal that I needed to club to death with a piece of wood I pirated from a virgin, old-growth redwood forest.
I am in law enforcement as well. And it really chaps me when people when people single out (read profile) a certain vehicle and attempt to desecrate every one who drives it! If you want the right to ridicule every vehicle then dont drive at all. That will hold more weight than being a hipocrit. Lovingly signed, A driver
Well, I don't think it's Photoshopped, and I don't think it's a handicapped space (just an access), but that's all beside the point. It's a metaphor, is all.
Wonder who posted about this on an SUV/off-road site somewhere? Nice to see that the commenters coming from same are living up to their reputations. Keep it up, guys!
Man with all of the money you guys cheat out of people every day, you'd think that you could get a decent photoshopper. I think that I will have to go around taking pictures of hybrids illegally parked. How about your buddy Daniel Patterson's 80's SUBURBAN illegally parked in a designated no vehicle are out in the desert. LMAO that the BLM Rangers busted him and gave him tickets. Talk about poetic justice. LOL!
Seriously though, this picture says nothing. People are rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful regardless of what they drive. I don't think this picture has any relevance or place on the Sierra Club website.
Dear Sierra Club,
I just gave you $43, please try to use it for something more constructive than picking on Hummer drivers.
Like most of the rest of the posters here I don't think the pick says much. I was honestly trying to figure out what is meant by the "there's truth here" comment. The fake pic and the posting of it, to me, just represent the fact that society is becoming ruder and less honest. The Sierra Club has an agenda which I believe is admirable but posting this pic just depreciates the agenda and gives further credence to the other side. The whole hipocrisy comment someone made is correct but useless because we live in a society of hipocrites. If there are any Saints on earth today we probably don't hear of them. I'm sure everyone that has posted here does something each day that goes against what they believe in or feel is best for all or even just themselves. That being said the Sierra Club Compass does not necessarly represent the Sierra Club as a whole so it is Mr Bradbury's personal opinion that the pick represents truth and not the entire Club's and who knows maybe Mr Bradbury does not drive a car. But certaintly Mr Bradbury is not Daniel Patterson so save your ridicule for you it belongs to. - By the way good luck to the Club, States, and other orgs involved in the Supreme Court case regarding Global Warming. Hopefully, someday soon we will all see a brighter day.
I actually don't think the picture is faked simply because (were it me faking such a picture), I would have tried for something a lot more damning. I suspect this driver just did a lousy job of parking (those things have to be hard to park, right?) and didn't care (or, more charitably, didn't notice) that he or she came close to blocking a handicapped access ramp.
The "there's truth there" remark (my remark, not the Sierra Club's) alludes to what I think is the selfishness of choosing to waste resources as conspicuously as a Hummer does. I think this pic represents that visually in a way that saying "driving a Hummer is selfish" doesn't.
Of course, nobody's perfect. We don't all drive Hummers, but we all make choices that err on the side of selfishness at times, me included.
And on the plus side, no gas is being wasted by this particular Hummer; it's just sitting there.
Before I can focus on the ignorance that abounds in Mr. Jim Bradbury's fairy tales, I must qualify Mr. Bradbury's character, his sources, and even his personal frame of mind. While Mr. Bradbury insists that he is a spokesman for nature, reality dictates otherwise. Actually, if you want a real dose of reality, look at how the worst sorts of disdainful Machiavellians I've ever seen, almost by definition, teach villainous concepts to children. I could write pages on the subject, but the following should suffice. Mr. Bradbury's ballyhoos have put our proud nation on a path which, if left unchanged, may well cause it to follow the Roman Empire into historical oblivion. Whatever weight we accord to that fact, we may be confident that Mr. Bradbury claims that he answers to no one. That claim is preposterous. No history can justify it. Mr. Bradbury divides the organization of his fork-tongued ideas into two halves that, apparently separate from one another, in truth, form an inseparable whole. The first half seeks to suppress people's instinct and intellect, while the second half is yet another biased blend of tendentious ruffianism and overweening radicalism. I want to live my life as I see fit. I can't do that while Mr. Bradbury still has the ability to cause riots in the streets. Finally, to those of you who are faithfully helping me ratchet up our level of understanding, let me extend, as always, my deepest gratitude and my most affectionate regards.
Almost all of the Sierra Club members are hypocrites. Donating money or filing lawsuits does NOTHING to help the environment. How about you actually take proactive steps to help species, rather than just "talk" about it? HYPOCRITES!!!

Nice try hippies!!! Talk about playing dirty.....low class. Obvious fake.
Looks to be Photoshoped, and not very well. There is no pole with a sign which is required by law.
Another poor attempt to further a poor agenda. Perhaps you could get the facts and realize most people aren't listening when you cry wolf now days.

truly sorry,

Google sierra club hypocrisy and you get over 200,000 results. Lots of great reading.
