A new Pew survey found that only 69% know that Dick Cheney is vice president, whereas back in 1989, 74% could identify ol' Dan what's his toes. According to
this summary in Editor&Publisher:
Pew judged the levels of knowledgeability (correct answers) among those surveyed and found that those who scored the highest were regular watchers of Comedy Central's The Daily Show and Colbert Report. They tied with regular readers of major newspapers in the top spot -- with 54% of them getting 2 out of 3 questions correct. Watchers of the Lehrer News Hour on PBS followed just behind.
Virtually bringing up the rear were regular watchers of Fox News. Only 1 in 3 could answer 2 out of 3 questions correctly.
Quayle. Right?

and this has what to do w/ the environment? let's stick to green things and not let our disdain of D. Cheney (which I'm inclined to agree w/ you on)throw us off our message. You're better than that Pat !!
Thanks Greenfool, but apparently I'm not.
Actually, though, I didn't mean it to be about Dick Cheney so much as about the general lack of political awareness in America -- including my own. If we can't even name the vice president, chances are we're not paying attention to his energy plan or his geopolitical philosophy or he and his boss's views on global warming. In that sense, it has plenty to do with the environment. But, you're right, I should either make that connection more explicit or leave the subject alone. Point taken.
Thanks for the comment.
I agree w/ you on the political awarenss.. people don't seem to care for one reason or another.. I'm not a fan of politicians but these people are going to be running our country so we need to make an effort to know what they stand for.... by the way, has anyone given any thought to doing a blog about publicly held "green companies" - we can support these companies by investing in them through the stock market...
You might check out Joel Makower's excellent website and blog. I'll confess I haven't read that much of Makower's stuff, but he seems to be the go-to guy on green business issues.
