In India, there are currently about 7 cars per 1,000 persons (as compared to nearly 500 per 1,000 in the US). With the advent of the 100,000-rupee (or $3,000) car, that is about to change. The UK Independent's Andrew Buncombe reports from Delhi.

Good news for people who love bad news. (modest mouse) - Why does it feel like for every step forward we take 3 or 4 steps back?
One of the questions often asked by scholars studying the collapse of previous civilizations is "why the collapse?" When they find an answer related to environmental destruction by human activity, they ask further, "Didn't they see this coming? Why didn't they alter course to avoid disaster?"
