He Never Writes, He Never Calls

There was a time when he used to call me at home just to chat. We'd have a few laughs, swap tales of being and doing. Not anymore. Ever since he won that Oscar, Al Gore acts like he doesn't know me. Now, with this whole Nobel thing, forget about it. Ah well, it's not like I was counting on an ambassadorship or anything....

All kidding aside, this is great news! If you're reading Al, big props! And hugs to Tipper.

Gore scored a hat trick. An Oscar, an Emmy and now the Nobel. What's left? President?? Yeah!!! Run, Al, run!!!

And let's not forget the John Muir Award -- the Club's top honor.

I was not a huge fan of Gore the politician (or really any other politcian for that matter)but I am thrilled for him right now. I think he has found his true calling and we are fortunate he has. The longterm effect of his current efforts will be greater than if he had been president 4 or 8 years, IMO.

What is Sierra Club Compass please? I see no description of its writer. Who is Pat Joseph please??! Normally a Blog has an Introduction of some kind to who the writer is. Why not here?

And is this the only place on the entire website where anyone who is not employed by Sierra Club can actually say anything?

I am writing in this Comment place as I have yet to find any forum where Sierra Club members might debate things in public. I cant even find an email address to write to regarding having a view on energy production issues and climate change issues. Is this Blog the main and only place where one could write something - if one can find the topic one wants to speak about?

thanks for any help you can give

Plenty of people seem confused why a Power-Pointin', concert-promotin' environmentalist should get the Nobel PEACE prize (instead of, say, the monks of Myanmar). I suppose we should be resigned to the idea that the PEACE prize has evolved into a sort of worldwide "good citizenship" award. Of course, though it's a bit of a stretch, we can always draw the connection between global climate change and the new conflicts it is already causing around the world to justify the "PEACE" tag.

Hey Caroline,

We're working on having more places for Sierra Club members to say more and debate publicly, but for the moment blogs are all we have... Compass isn't the only place though -- here's a list of all our blogs:
http://www.sierraclub.org/blogs/

We do have a community site on global warming issues, http://coolcities.us

If you're looking for someone to talk to at the club membership.services@sierraclub.org is always a good place to start.

If you want to get more involved with how the Club makes its policies, check out our volunteer extranet clubhouse.sierraclub.org

As for Pat, he's a staff writer in our web department. I'll leave it up to him to say more...

Hi Caroline:
As a character in Seinfeld once answered the question:

I know who I am. Do you know who you are?

Seriously though, if you're really interested, try this:
