About the Sierra Club

The Sierra Club was founded in 1892 by writer and conservationist John Muir. Today, it is recognized as "the nation's most influential environmental organization," with the resources to empower people and influence public policy through community activism, public education, lobbying, and litigation. Its mission is:

  • To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth
  • To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources
  • To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment, and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives

The Climate Recovery Partnership focuses Sierra Club's comprehensive work with activists, entrepreneurs, and conservationists on global warming. Together Sierra Club's Climate Recovery Partners are working to stop the worst contributors to global warming, repower America with renewable energy sources, and protect wilderness and communities most at risk in a changing climate.
