End the Delays: Bring Streetcars to DC!

DC officials have laid out an ambitious plan for a 45-mile citywide network of energy-efficient streetcars, but these plans have fallen off track.

With all the benefits that streetcars offer—support for local businesses, more manageable commutes, connections between neighborhoods divided by freeways or rivers, and decreases in the tailpipe pollution that causes asthma and global warming—we can’t afford to wait years for action.

Take Action: Contact Mayor Adrian Fenty today.
  • Thank Mayor Fenty for committing to the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection agreement, and for recently proposing funds to buy streetcars for the H Street line.
  • Urge the mayor to make global warming solutions a top priority, and to start implementing plans for DC’s full streetcar network.

Dear Mayor Fenty,

Thank you for signing the Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement and committing the District to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions to 7% below 1990 levels by 2012.  Since it's almost 2008, we need to measure and reduce our emissions now to meet that commitment and the even greater reductions that will be needed.  We especially need to provide DC residents with convenient, energy-efficient alternatives to driving by ending the delays in the citywide streetcar plan.

Please join us to help build a cleaner, smarter, safer energy future and stop global warming.

Sincerely,
