Metro DC Healthy Communities Campaign

Poorly planned development is threatening our environment and quality of life in the Washington area. Suburban sprawl is increasing traffic, sapping local resources, and destroying open space. To make matters worse, the highway lobby is pushing for an Outer Beltway - which would open new lands to scattered development, waste taxpayer money, and disrupt communities, without solving our traffic problems.

The Sierra Club has a vision for a better future. We can invest in transit. We can make our communities friendlier for walking and biking, and concentrate future development near transit, all while by protecting our region's special places and natural heritage.
