The Sierra Club LeConte Memorial Lodge invites you to participate in our new program, Words for Wilderness Around the World. This program is inspired by the writings of five wilderness advocates who are associated in some way with LeConte Lodge. Each of them wrote persuasively about the value of wild places.
Now its your turn. We invite you to record your experiences and thoughts about nature, wilderness, and the environment. If you visit LeConte Memorial Lodge, the Sierra Club's home located in Yosemite National Park, slips of recycled paper (3" x 11") are available for you to write up to fifty "words for wilderness." If you can't visit us, please use the website form above to electronically submit your Words, or e-mail us at harold.wood@sierraclub.org, or forward your written WORDS FOR WILDERNESS to: LeConte Memorial Lodge, P.O. Box 755, Yosemite, CA 95389.
Your words should be on the themes of nature, protecting wilderness, clean water, clean air, global population, human rights and the environment, and global warming. These themes are a point of departure. You may write about you personal relationship with nature or the environmental challenges faced by your own community, your nation, or the global community. These words will be collected into a necklace of words around the world.
Any work you submit may be published in any Sierra Club print publication, on Club mailing lists, and on our website. We don't return submissions, so keep a copy.
Any writing submitted may be edited and we reserve the right to publish our edited version without your prior approval. You authorize us to include and print your name on all words you submit.
All works submitted become the property of Sierra Club and all copyrights are assigned to Sierra Club. We retain the non-exclusive rights to publish all such works in any format. However, all individual contributors retain the right to submit their work for publication elsewhere and you have our permission to do so.
