Gas Guzzlers and Global Warming
Tuesday, October 03, 2006

One of our cases now in progress challenges the Bush administration's new fuel economy standards, i.e. MPG, for light trucks and SUVs for model years 2008-2011. The new standards are 22.5 MPG for 2008, 23.1 for 2009 and 23.5 for 2010......incredibly weak when you consider that motor vehicles are one of the primary causes of global warming pollution. When I dug into this case, I was amazed to find out how the MPG-setting process works. Basically, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) obtains future production plans from the car companies, then tweaks them by adding on additional pieces of fuel-efficiency equipment until the cost of the equipment outweighs the incremental benefit of the gasoline savings. In other words, NHTSA doesn't really challenge the automakers to innovate from scratch, they just put lipstick on the gas guzzlers. Making matters worse, the agency acknowledged that the reduction of greenhouse gases would be a huge benefit in the overall cost-benefit equation, but then assigned that benefit a $0 value because they claim it is too "uncertain." This case is being briefed right now and will go to the court in early 2007. We can do so much better - we should be getting at least 40 MPG out of our light trucks and SUVs.

I don't know what the targets are but there is a product on the market that will reduce emissions from cars by about 75%. The product is called the MPG-Cap. On a normal car not using the MPG-Cap when you pass your finger on the tail pipe it gets black. On a car using the MPG-Cap there is virtually no black from emissions. It is quite amazing. All older cars should be forced to use this product.

California in 2006 imposed the Country's first statewide cap on emissions of the heat-trapping gases that are blamed for global warming!

MPG-CAPS is the product that is helping California achieve this goal. Not only am I helping reduce emissions, I saved my Fedex driver $500 in fuel costs last month!

Ask me how at ronautotech.myffi.biz

Just attended an intl. Biofuels/
Biomass conference at the CA. EPA.
Speakers all said that NOW is the short window to act to decrease greenhouse gases, but most agreed that measures resulting in signicant decreases are at least a decade way. 40% of GHG in Calif. comes from vehicles (using fossil and biofuels), and 250 billion gal. of fossil fuelis used yearly in the US for transport.I have chosen to do something NOW to decrease my vehicles's carbon footprint - I use the MPG-CAP and get 14% increased mileage (3.5 mpg
more and that much less gas), and know (per tons of research)that my car's emissions are lower. Please refer to my website to see how you can also walk your talk - NOW:
