Condos Threaten Coastal Dunes along Alabama's Coast

Case Updates:

January 1, 2004

The Club's fight goes on to protect the endangered beach and last undeveloped dune habitats of Alabama's gulf coast from siege by condominium developers. The Club obtained an injunction to prevent six 23 story beachfront condos from being built in habitat for the endangered Alabama Beach Mouse until an Environmental Impact Statement is prepared, and has pending a related suit to prevent the development until the U.S. Fish and Wildlife expands the mouse's designated critical habitat to include the inland scrub habitat vital for its recovery. Decisions on these issues are expected by the federal court in Mobile in 2004.
