Land Swaps or Land Grabs: National Forests and Ski Resorts

Federal “land swaps” more often resemble land grabs in which valuable public lands are traded to development interests for pennies on the dollar. The Club recently filed suit challenging a proposed land exchange between the Bush Administration and Grand Targhee ski resort, located in Wyoming near the Idaho border. Under the proposed exchange, the Forest Service would swap 120 acres of land in an important wildlife corridor within the Grand Targhee National Forest for private lands worth a fraction of the Forest Service lands.
