Sierra Club “Friendly” to Coastal Tidelands in South Carolina
Case Updates:
August 1, 2003
Supporting the protection of public trust tidelands in South Carolina, the Club weighed in as an “friend of the court” in opposition to a property owner’s suit seeking payment for a permit denial to fill a critical area of wetlands for residential development. In April, the South Carolina Supreme Court agreed with us and ruled that no unconstitutional “taking” occurred when the state denied the permit in North Myrtle Beach.
