Radioactive Waste in Pacific Northwest

Case Updates:

May 1, 2003

The Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington is an environmental disaster: more than 1 million gallons of radioactive waste have already leaked from storage tanks, forming a radioactive plume that is leaching into the Columbia River. In the face of widespread opposition, the Bush Administration has decided to ship more radioactive wastes to Hanford. A new Club lawsuit aims to require the Department of Energy to conduct appropriate environmental studies before shipping radioactive wastes across America’s highways and will reinforce the groundswell of activism opposing additional waste shipments to Hanford.
