Cement Plant Threatens Air Quality in Missouri

Toxic air pollution comes in many forms, including mercury, soot, and carbon monoxide, all of which can be mitigated through proper emission standards and regulations. In Missouri, Sierra Club filed suit to protect the already jeopardized air quality of the region by challenging the construction of a Holcim Corporation cement plant. The proposed plant would emit over 870 tons of air pollutants annually, in addition to destroying nearby aquatic ecosystems. In the other two cases, the Club filed suit to force Administration officials to set pollution standards for brick and clay kiln manufacturers and for iron and steel mill production.
