Supporting Michigan Residents' Demand to Hold Corporate Polluter Accountable

Case Updates:

October 1, 2004

In early October, Sierra Club weighed in as a friend of the court in a lawsuit now before the Michigan Supreme Court against corporate polluter Dow Chemical Company. At the heart of the case is whether the polluting company should be made to pay for preventative medical tests and screening of local residents along the dioxin-polluted Tittabawassee River. Dioxin is a known carcinogen and is thought to be linked to a variety of illnesses including birth defects. Sierra Club joined the litigation in support of local residents who face a large financial burden of paying for medical tests after repeated exposure to the toxic pollution.
