One Step Closer to Clean Air in Texas

Case Updates:

September 3, 2008

Coal power plants are the largest source of mercury emissions in the United States, threatening the health of children and pregnant women across the country. Last week, the Sierra Club initiated the latest in a series of legal actions to hold power companies accountable for their toxic pollution.  The suit filed last week against Dynegy Corporation’s subsidiary Sandy Creek Associates seeks to halt further construction of the Sandy Creek coal plant in Texas until developers obtain a new, stricter permit for emissions of mercury and other hazardous air pollutants. This follows on the heels of a similar case against Duke Energy in North Carolina and aims to prevent the needless poisoning of our families.
