Sierra Club Funds Solar Rebate Program in Ohio

Sierra Club is ramping up renewable energy use in the Midwest – the Club recently announced that it will provide funding for Green Energy Ohio to administer a statewide solar rebate program. The funds stem from Sierra Club’s 2008 settlement of a several-year lawsuit against Dayton Power & Light’s Stuart Generating Station, in which the coal-fired facility was cited for repeated Clean Air Act violations. The landmark settlement led to significant reductions in air pollutant emissions from the plant, and investments in renewable energy projects in Ohio.

This rebate program, “...will make solar thermal systems more affordable for the average homeowner, and will help spur the investment in and deployment of solar technologies across the Buckeye State,” said Northeast Ohio Program Manager, Athan Barkoukis.

Green Energy Ohio is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting economically and environmentally sustainable energy policies and practices in Ohio. The organization is now receiving applications for rebates on solar water heating systems purchased after April 1, 2009. To learn more about the rebate program, click here.
