 Northeast Region: Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania's Choice for '08: Clean Energy In 2008 we have an historic opportunity for Pennsylvania to take real steps towards a new energy future that is clean, reduces carbon emissions and builds a new energy economy. The Sierra Club in Pennsylvania and our partners are working to empower concerned citizens to take action, hold decision makers accountable, and build support for visionary action at the local, state, and federal levels.
The two main goals of our 2008 campaign are to:
Implement Smart Energy Solutions. The answers are here--PA no longer needs to live in the past of dirty fossil fuels, reckless energy consumption and a stagnant economy. At the municipal, county, state and federal level we are working with decision makers to implement policies that encourage and enforce energy efficiency, renewable energy sources like wind and solar, and energy conservation.
Stop the Coal Rush. Coal-fired power plants are a leading cause of respiratory illness, and already account for over 40% of our nation's carbon dioxide emissions, the lead cause of global warming. PA is an exporter of electricity so additional plants are not needed to meet local demand. We are working to stop new coal facilities by working to remove public subsidies for polluting technologies and stop construction of new coal plants in the state.
Pennsylvania has two Field offices: Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. If you want to help with this amazing effort, please feel free to contact our Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Field Offices.
