 Northeast Region: Rhode Island
Smart Energy Solutions for Rhode Island jobs, environment,
and way of life
Rhode Island’s dependence on automobiles is hurting our communities,
the environment and our economy. Rhode Islanders want to live full, prosperous
lives with a healthy environment and a healthy economy. They are worried about
the poor quality of the air as well as the fact that many people have few options
when it comes to getting to work or school. Yet, there is little alternative
to private cars.
The Sierra Club’s Cool Cities campaign is helping Rhode Islanders put
the “us” back
in “bus” and push for other clean, safe, and affordable transportation
alternatives. Given Rhode Island’s small size, we could have a real transportation
system in this state that keeps our air clean, keeps Rhode Island dollars at
home, keeps us fit and curbs global warming. With such high rates of asthma,
the rising cost of imported gasoline, and the looming threat of global warming,
we all have a role to play – business, government, and residents. We
can solve global warming, air pollution, and our dependence on dirty oil and
coal.

dependence on cars and dirty fossil fuels.
